Biography

Master Tara Singh, commonly dated 1885–1967, became an influential Sikh political and religious leader. In the early 1920s he took part in organizing Akali volunteers during the Gurdwara Reform Movement. Birth associations are often given as Harike, in the Tarn Taran region. An atlas entry for 1920–1925 should not fold his later politics into the reform campaign. The pin is Amritsar, the movement’s institutional centre.
