Biography

Mohan Singh, 1909–1989, was a British Indian Army officer captured by Japanese forces in Malaya in 1941. In 1942 he became the central figure in forming the first Indian National Army from Indian prisoners of war, with support from the Indian Independence League. Disagreements with Japanese authorities led to that first INA being suspended later in 1942. The force was reorganized under Subhas Chandra Bose in 1943. The slug keeps him distinct from other men named Mohan Singh. The pin is Singapore, the early organizing centre.
